Sellswords of Punjar
The Laughing Halfling
The Bumbleroot “Clan,” for there are too many of them now for it to simply be called a family, took over an antiquated house on Gilders’ Street and have since renovated it and turned it into a profitable venture as a tavern and hostel. Known formally as the Laughing Halfling, the lurid red used to paint the cheeks on its sign have earned it the moniker of Rosy Cheeks amongst some of the residents of Souk. The family has largely taken over the old servants quarters and made them more suitable for halfling occupation, and has turned the house’s main floor into a tavern, the second floor of rooms into a bunk house, and the third floor of the house into small rooms.
Several shifts of the family run the place at all hours of the day and night, serving the unceasing schedule of the Souk’s populous. By day the place is largely respectable, but by late evening it begins to cater to the more nocturnal inclinations of the ward. Rumours persist of deals with the Thieves Guild for protection, and certain amenities available to them, but no member of the clan will acknowledge such nonsense. It is true that some that wear the silver and black do call upon the Laughing Halfling, but if there’s more going on than simple insurance it’s not clear.
Being as it’s run by halflings, the quality of their fare is worth the cost. The clan prides itself on its gourmands, and claim their expertise with food and drink stems from a recent ancestor having been the head of a royal’s kitchen. If so, how the family wound up in Punjar is left unsaid.
